Year 7 Pilgrimage

At the start of the day, we registered in our tutor groups and waited in the playground for Mrs Palfreyman and the RE staff to finish explaining the schedule for the day. Tutors were divided into two groups with a teacher in each. Then, after thorough registration, we made our way towards the drive where we began our journey!

The children had to be in groups of two so they had someone to talk to throughout the journey. We walked past forests so that we could also not only enjoy our walk there, but to also enjoy the nature surrounding us. We walked through a tunnel, past modern houses, met many people living in the area and waved at upcoming vehicles driving past. The walk itself was very fun for me as I had my friend to accompany me. We then reached the Sacred Heart Church, where we completed many activities and Mass took place. We went inside the church where we sat down and listened to our Priest, Father Jeremy, talk about how glad he is about us visiting him that day. He also explained the history of the church. We then started our activities, we had mini quizzes and creative tasks in a booklet that we received. Our job was to explore the church and answer as much as possible, those whose booklets appealed to the RE department the most won a special prize!

Finally, after all our activities and food breaks took place, it was time for the Holy Mass. The Mass started with our beloved Father Jeremy and his two altar servers arriving towards the altar. The mass then continued with a variety of readings, songs, blessings and a homily.

I really enjoyed our day at Sacred Heart, if I had the chance, I would go again to experience those moments…
