Research

  • A famous cathedral such as Sagrada Familia (Barcelona). What features does it contain? What is different about it to a traditional church/cathedral?
  • Different cultural art representations of Jesus. How is he depicted and why?
  • Different religious views on whether we should use statues in worship (maybe compare Christian views with Muslims and Jews).
  • Find out about the meaning and importance of hunger cloths (use the link below)

  • Enter the ‘Spirited Arts’ national RE competition. Use your creative abilities to make a new piece of art Enter Spirited Arts 2023 | NATRE competition
  • Go to a local church or, if you’re somewhere new, try to visit a cathedral or different church. Which key symbols and features can you find? Are there any that you don’t recognise? Find out about them or come back into school and ask your teacher!
  • Create a Kahoot quiz on a topic you have studied in class. Ask your teacher if this could be played as a starter or plenary in one of your lessons.
  • Revise the spellings and definitions of these key terms:

Year 8

Research

  • Research what Jews and Muslims believe about Abraham OR find out what expression ‘Abrahamic faiths’ means
  • Either from our tutor group names or the building names at Oaklands, pick at least two of these saints to research. Why are these people remarkable? Why were they made a saint? How does their story link to what you are studying at the moment?
  • Research the seven ‘Catholic Social Teaching Principles’ and consider what type of world we would live in if everyone followed these
  • Find out the main differences between how Muslims treat the Qur’an and how Christians treat the Bible.

  • Go on the internet and search for a story about Christians doing charity work. How are these Christians showing that they are the Body of Christ and building the Kingdom of God here on earth? Write down your findings.
  • Write down 5 things you have learnt about moral decision making. Think of a time when you had to make a moral decision – Are you proud of the decision you made? Why?
  • Discuss with someone you live with whether ALL the 10 Commandments are still important and relevant today. Be ready to share your findings in class next lesson.
  • Create a quiz (Kahoot or handwritten), crossword or wordsearch based on what you have learnt this half-term in RE
  • Revise the spellings and definitions of these key terms:

Vocation, Messiah, Disciple, Covenant, Atonement, Parable, Reconciliation, Morality, Beatitudes, Kingdom of God

Year 9

Research

  • How baptism is carried out in the Christian Orthodox tradition. What are the similarities/differences between this and Catholic baptism?
  • How couples prepare for a Catholic marriage. What are the stages of the preparation course? What do they have to do and why is this important?
  • Why Quakers do not celebrate the seven sacraments. What do they believe? What do they think it is more important to focus on and why?
  • What the rules are during the sacrament of reconciliation. Can a priest tell anyone what you have confessed? What if someone has committed a criminal offence?
