Impact

At the end of an A Level within the Social Science department, we hope that students will be able to:

  • In Sociology, have an understanding of the inequality experience by social groups and how this affects their life chances.
  • In Sociology, be able to explain contemporary issues in society using key evidence.
  • In Psychology, be able to explain behaviour using key approaches and concepts.
  • Be more inquisitive about the society we live in.
  • To recognise the contribution of research for both Sociology and Psychology.
  • Develop the ability to challenge theoretical views using opposing evidence.
  • Within Health & Social Care, be able to understand the impact of particular medical conditions on individuals.
  • In Health & Social Care, acquire knowledge that can be applied to a career within this field.

Many students are successful at A Level and go on to study these subject at University level. Psychology is a popular subject and a number of students opt to study this at a higher level. In addition, those students who complete the Level 3 Cambridge Technical Extended Certificate in Health & Social Care often go onto study nursing, midwifery or paramedic science. Students who have studied Sociology at A Level go will go into a related degree course such as criminology or teaching.
