Impact

At the end of the Science curriculum, we hope that students will leave Oaklands enriched in the following manner:

  • Love of science
  • Our students   will acquire a sound knowledge and understanding of the key principles of the subject.  This, together with the analytical, literacy and numeracy skills they develop, enable them to understand and explain natural phenomena.
  • They are able to use these skills to interpret and solve challenges and problems from everyday situations too.  These life skills allow them to become happy, successful citizens able to contribute positively to society.
  • Our students are aware of the progress they are making as well as their own areas of strength and weakness as a result of the regular assessments and follow-up work they undertake.  This helps them become adept at managing their own learning independently.

We hope that the impact of the curriculum is apparent from the excellent results students achieve in national examinations, as well as the number of students who continue the study of Science at A-level and beyond.  Many student at Oaklands go on to University or employment where science is a key element of their courses or chosen profession.
